Men’s County Championship history & statistics

I have collated details of the history of our County Championships by event, year & the players/clubs involved and have produced some statistics which you & your members may find of interest.

I would point out that statistics can be adjusted to whatever you want to show but what I have come up with does give picture of the history of the Championships. In addition, it is always a danger comparing different eras as the game has changed so much now to what it was in the past.

Please note I have treated the main four individual championship events namely Singles (4 bowl), Pairs, Triples & Fours separately as these have been played over a much longer period to the others and I will call these the ‘grand slam’ championships. The Singles, Pairs & Fours have been played since 1937 (with a break for the War years) and the Triples since 1945. The other championships namely two bowl Singles, Junior Singles, Junior Pairs & Senior Fours were introduced much later.

As you may imagine compiling these statistics has been a complicated task & errors are possible. Although I am confident the information is accurate please let me know if you find any errors or omissions.

In addition to the details shown, I have a record of each person who has won an individual County Championship title and I can provide specific details on request.
