KINGS LYNN BC WIN THE BOWLS ENGLAND DIVERSITY & INCLUSION AWARD
King’s Lynn Bowls Club has made a significant impact on diversity and inclusion by opening its doors to underrepresented and mixed-ability groups, ensuring bowls is seen as an accessible and welcoming sport for all. Over the past year, the club has focused on removing barriers to participation and embedding inclusivity into its culture through proactive engagement with the Bowls Development Alliance (BDA). This commitment has shaped a long-term vision for accessibility and community connection.
The most inspiring example of this work is the club’s collaboration with The Big C. Through tailored sessions for patients, survivors, and carers, the club created a safe, supportive environment where individuals could enjoy gentle physical activity, social interaction, and renewed confidence. Volunteers adapted equipment and delivery techniques to meet diverse needs, ensuring every participant felt valued. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees describing the sessions as a vital step in their recovery and wellbeing.
Beyond The Big C partnership, the club also hosted events for the King’s Lynn Men’s 41 Club and local Scout groups, bridging generational and social divides. These initiatives have transformed perceptions of bowls locally—from a traditional sport to an inclusive, community-centred activity.
In recognition of this Kings Lynn BC took the prestigious Bowls England Diversity & Inclusion Award at the Annual Awards Ceremony held at the Athena in Leicester.
