Norfolk battle back to secure Middleton Cup draw

Norfolk showed their fighting qualities to draw with Essex at Frinton BC on Saturday with the match finishing 104 shots each with both Counties taking 11 points.

In wet & windy conditions, Norfolk started slowly as Essex adapted better to the conditions and opened a 11 shot lead at 5 ends which they maintained through the early stages.

As conditions improved so did Norfolk’s fortunes and with the rinks skipped by Wayne Willgress & Peter Boldero recovering over the closing ends and those of Aaron Johnson & David Smith securing big wins and Ian Catchpole’s rink battling to a win it was left to Sam King’s rink to score 3 shots on the last end of the match to give Norfolk a deserved draw.

The result keeps the Group wide open and Norfolk next take to green at Liittleport BC on 20th June when they take on Cambridgeshire
